From press release:
MARY’S WEDDING
A TORONTO PREMIERE AT THE FRINGE
FROM 2011 TORONTO THEATRE CRITICS’ AWARD-WINNER
Brantbury Fair Productions presents the Toronto premiere of Stephen Massicotte’s popular Canadian World War 1 romantic drama MARY’S WEDDING at the Factory Theatre Mainstage July 7-16 as part of the Toronto Fringe Festival.
Playwright Stephen Massicotte, winner of a 2011 Toronto Theatre Critics’ Award, rose to prominence in Toronto this fall when critics and audiences raved about his ‘captivating’ THE CLOCKMAKER ( out of 4 stars).
In Mary’s Wedding, romance begins when Mary’s family settles in a small farming village in Canada after emigrating from England. Mary (Blythe Haynes) falls for Charlie (Jesse Nerenberg), a farm boy who does not meet with the approval of her mother. When the excitement of their forbidden romance is interrupted by the Great War, the true story of a fabled Canadian WW1 squadron begins as Charlie befriends Canadian war hero Gordon Flowerdew.
The cast features exciting newcomers Blythe Haynes and Jesse Nerenberg. Blair Haynes (Actor Unforgiven, Director Possible Worlds) directs courtesy of Canadian Actors Equity.
Designs are by York alumni Liam Hanebury and Jonathan Epstein.
Stephen Massicotte won multiple awards for his first full-length work, Mary’s Wedding. He was further decorated for The Oxford Roof Climber’s Rebellion which appeared at the Tarragon Theatre in 2006, and was a hit off-Broadway in 2007. In 2009, The Clockmaker premiered at playRites winning a Betty Mitchell Award in 2009, and a 2011 Toronto Theatre Critics’ Award at the Tarragon. Massicotte’s screenplays include Ginger Snaps and its sequels, for which he was awarded an AMPIA. His TV credits include Honey, I Shrank the Kids and Tom Stone.
