July 4th to 15th, 2012
Debuting at the 2012 Toronto Fringe Festival, Everything I Never Knew I Wanted is an autobiographical one-woman show written and performed by Stacey Bernstein, a Toronto-based television producer. Everything I Never Knew I Wanted takes a humorous and poignant look at one woman’s journey to find her place in the world.
Stacey was convinced she could “have it all”. Life is so much clearer when you’re six. An investigative news team focuses its lens on her journey through life and the host of characters who have influenced her transformation from a six-year-old seer to bewildered adult.
In a career that has focused on telling other people’s stories, Stacey now takes the stage to share her own life’s drama in Everything I Never Knew I Wanted, her first solo show. For longer than she can remember Stacey has wanted to create a one woman show. Two years ago, she finally took the plunge to begin writing this story. First mounted at the Santa Fe Solo Performance Festival in 2011, Stacey is excited to present this new work to hometown audiences in Toronto, before taking it on to the Edmonton International Fringe Theatre Festival in August 2012.
Anne Wootten, a veteran of theatre, film and television, directs Everything I Never Knew I Wanted. She has directed at major Canadian theatres, including eight seasons at the Stratford Festival. She has choreographed dance scenes for films starring Patrick Dempsey, Marlon Brando, Brian Dennehy, Bette Midler, and Matthew Broderick, to name just a few. The Toronto Star calls her work “little short of magic”. Also part of this performance team, are award-winners – Juan Alberto, choreography consultant and Elena Rakitskaya, costume design.
Everything I Never Knew I Wanted… happiness comes in unusual packages, and usually at the most inconvenient times.
