Yes, I realise something that is a video contest isn’t particularly theatre-like, but the state of arts funding in this country can’t be held within the confines of specific genres. So, on that note, let me tell you about Gone in 30 Seconds, a video contest being put on by the Department of Culture.

Below is everything you need to know to put a dent in the massive advertising advantage the Conservatives have gained through superior fundraising. We need an impassioned grassroots movement to create a wave of counter-arguments to the Stephen Harper is a nice guy who wears sweaters and feeds kids Cheerios message being disseminated through traditional media.
If the Obama campaign has taught us anything, it is that the internet and YouTube videos can be a powerful and legitimate force in an election campaign. Use your imagination, use your intellect, and remember funny is far more likely to go viral. Just ask Tina Fey.

The Department Of Culture wants you to get involved! Show Canada in 30 seconds how you feel about the Conservative government’s dramatic dismantling of arts, cultural and social programs since 2006.
These submissions will be entered into a national online contest. Celebrity judges will pick the winning entries, which will be showcased at the DoC’s huge This Is Not A Conservative Party concert, Oct. 9th at the Phoenix Concert Hall in Toronto.

What’s the Deal?
- Your movie must be EXACTLY 30 seconds. Not more – Not less. .
- The general rules of niceness apply – don’t break the law, don’t screw around with someone’s human rights, don’t break copyright law, don’t steal and wear clean underwear – bottom line is we retain the right to remove a submission that doesn’t comply with the laws. Read the fine print for the nitty-gritty – we did so we’re up on our rights.
- The top 10 videos will be selected by you online at YouTube, and then passed on to our panel of celebrity judges.
- The finalist’s videos will be aired at our huge kick-ass concert on Oct. 9th at the Phoenix Concert Hall in Toronto.
- The winner will be announced live at the concert and online before midnight Oct. 9th. The top 2 videos will be awarded prizes and honourable mention prizes will go to the following 3. But you are all winners in our eyes.

- %50 Creativity – how it was made, message presented, use of theme, design
- %50 Content – well thought out, clear message, creative message
