Coming to Toronto Fringe 2009: HOW TO MAKE A MIX TAPE

From Press Release

The Fringe of Toronto and Alias Dance Project presents

HOW TO MAKE A MIX TAPE

The mix tape: an eclectic blend of songs that set the mood for just about anything from road trips to bad break-ups. How do you make the perfect mix tape? Combine 1 part love ballad, 2 parts Italian Disco, 1 mushroom trip, 8 dancers dancing, 3 throw-downs, a hint of Led Zepplin, and an empty stage… Alias Dance Project presents How to Make a Mix Tape: the perfect mix for your next make-out session featuring choreography by Alias’ Lauren Cook, Meghan Cafferky and Geordan Coupland with guest artists Valerie Calam and Gadfly’s Apolonia Velasquez and Ofilio Portillo.

At Tarragon Theatre from July 4th-12th, How to Make a Mix Tape combines house, hip-hop and contemporary dance from five choreographers. With something for everyone in five highly physical works, How to Make a Mix Tape will rock your neon socks off.

Described as “…technically sophisticated” by Katherine Greenaway of the Montreal Gazette, Alias formed in 2007 with the vision of integrating contemporary and urban dance styles. Members include Lauren Cook, Geordan Coupland, Meghan Cafferky, Gita Harris, Andrea Spaziani and Sarah Yu with a guest performance by Sean Ling. David Balzer of Eye Weekly said “… if you are interested in the Fringe’s Dance Initiative this is one to see…”.
