The Tim Sims Encouragement Fund is pleased to present ‘Fresh Meat’, a showcase of the hottest fresh new faces on Toronto’s comedy scene.

On Monday, September 14, 2009, a jury-selected group of Toronto’s best up and coming comedians will strut their stuff at this exciting annual comedy event. Hosted by Second City Alumni Lee Smart (The 5th Quadrant, The Comedy Network, Space) and featuring this year’s best emerging sketch and stand up acts, all eligible to be nominated for the 2009 Tim Sims Award of Recognition.

Out of a variety of 20 promising acts performing at this year’s comedy competition, only five outstanding comedic acts will be chosen to perform in "Cream of Comedy" (Monday, November 2, 2009) to compete for what has become the career-boosting mark of distinction: The Tim Sims Award which comes with a $5000 prize.

The Tim Sims Encouragement Fund, now in its 14th year, supports and promotes promising comedic performers in the early stages of their careers. Established in 1995 in memory of comedian Tim Sims, who was as well known for his brilliant talent and his dedication to supporting new talent, the Tim Sims Encouragement Award and Cream of Comedy has launched the careers of many Canadian comedy stars seen on stages and television today.

Previous winners and nominees include: Nathan Fielder (This Hour has 22 Minutes, CBC), Jeff McEnery (also winner of the $25,000 Great Canadian Laugh-Off),
Gavin Crawford, (This Hour has 22 Minutes, CBC, The Gavin Crawford Show, TCN) Aurora Browne (Comedy Inc. CTV), Craig Lauzon and Jessica Holmes, (Air Farce, CBC) Laurie Elliot, (Popcultured, Comedy Now, TCN ) Debra DiGiovanni, (Last Comic Standing , NBC) Fraser Young, (Comedy Now, TCN) and Levi MacDougall (Popcultured, Comedy Now, TCN).
