I’m losing my editor (to a good cause, she’s transferring things she learned at Mooney on Theatre to pursue her children’s book series with more gusto) and am now on the search for a new one.

The position will let you participate in all of the nitty gritty of an edited online publication, and is a great learning experience (and, of course, good resume fodder). 

Mooney on Theatre Editorial Internships

Mooney on Theatre’s editorial internship is a three to four month program for candidates who are interested in working in journalism. Although it is specifically geared towards those with an interest in new media and the arts, the application process is open to all candidates interested in editorial work.

Candidates must be organized, motivated, reliable, able to work independently and willing to work between 15 and 30 hours per week (to be negotiated on a candidate to candidate basis). Some previous experience working with a publication is an asset to your application, however not essential. The internship offers an opportunity for "hands-on" learning and Mooney on Theatre will provide training.

In return, the intern will have an opportunity to participate in all aspects of the publication.  Including participation in:

• developing and managing the editorial calendar;
• production meetings;
• writing regular pieces for Mooney on Theatre;
• researching and fact checking;
• proofreading copy;
• editing articles (initially shadow-editing alongside editor);
• working on outreach (i.e. social media); and
• providing input on recruitment of writers and reviewing unsolicited pitches. 

Mooney on Theatre is in a period of rapid growth, so interns have the opportunity to influence the future direction of the publication.

Mooney on Theatre (http://www.mooneyontheatre.com) is a fast-growing online publication focusing on theatre, primarily in Toronto. It was started in April 2008 with a single writer (now editor, Megan Mooney). In less than two years the publication has grown to include 10 regular writers, 1 editor, and several occasional writers.

This is an exciting time to be involved in Mooney on Theatre since it has an established and loyal readership and is ready for significant growth again. This means there is the opportunity for flexibility and experimentation, as well as the standard editorial experience.

Terms of the internship

This is an unpaid internship. Although it runs for four months, the internship is very flexible and can fit in with the school schedule of participants, meaning it can run for more or less time if necessary. There is also the possibility of extension for a second term.
