When life seems beyond your grasp, become Grounded in Fantasy and hold on to the now.
June 8, 2011. Toronto, Ontario… What does a woman need to survive? A good man, a good job, or a good f—k? Accidental Crossroads is proud to announce the world premiere and its inaugural production of Grounded in Fantasy, by P.J. Elwood, as part of the Toronto Fringe Festival.
Live , original music pulses through this sexy, new, dark comedy about a depressed woman whose fantasy world takes over her reality when she hits rock bottom. Characters from the woman’s mind perform short fantasies in an effort to unlock the reason behind her mental illness. Based on a series of short vignettes inspired by some of the writer’s favourite music,Grounded in Fantasy was written in an attempt to show a unique perspective on a very real condition that affects most -if not all- people at some point in their lives.
After meeting Ryan Watson (from Toronto band Dress Rehearsal) in a local pub, Elwood gave him copies of the short stories and asked Watson to score them according to his own emotional response. And from there, the play grew into a piece of art inspiring new art .
Featuring Zane Banyan, Ash Catherwood, Steve Ferguson, Natalie Morgan, and recent Randolph Academy graduate, Gráinne O’Flynn, Grounded in Fantasy is a true collaboration of talent. The workshop-focused rehearsals led by director Pamela Barker complement the writer’s original vision to create something unexpected, fresh and authentic.
Grounded in Fantasy is the first production from Accidental Crossroads, a new company from Toronto, ON. Formed by Pamela Barker and film producer Leonardo Dell’Anno,in November, 2010, the company’s name comes from embracing the concept that through the many accidents in life one can find new and beautiful opportunities.
