From Press Release
(TORONTO, ON – June 6, 2012) little tongues takes place in the striking and eclectic Adelaide St. Loft404, where the thirty-five person audience are intimate voyeurs during the dinner of the hilarious and heartbreaking Phillips’ family.
The actors are so close you could reach out and touch them. You smell vegetables cooking in the frying pan. Candles glow as the sun sets though the expansive loft windows. You are not experiencing a conventional piece of theatre. Before you know it, more than just a bottle of gin gets broken. Secrets are revealed that will change the Phillips family forever.
little tongues is the first production of the blood projects, a Toronto-based, independent, artist driven production company, dedicated to producing multi-disciplinary work about the blood that connects us all. Formed in 2009 by Sarah Jurgens and Sasha Singer-Wilson, the blood projects create brazen, visceral and immersive performances.
The first play of playwright Sasha Singer-Wilson, her wit and insight belie her twenty-five years. Paired with the wisdom and unique eye of veteran director Paul Lampert (director of Theatre PANIK’s “Territories”, Best Production Summerworks 2005, named one of NOW’s Outstanding New Plays of 2005, six seasons at the Shaw Festival), little tongues is an in-your-face, gritty look at family and it’s idiosyncrasies.
Featuring an all-star cast of Melee Hutton (2012 Dora Nomination for Outstanding Performance in Brothers Karamazov with Wordsmyth Theatre), Mark Wilson (Canadian Comedy Award nomination for Best Direction for “That Dorothy Parker”), Niki Landau (Canadian premiere of George F. Walker´s “Suburban Motel” Series at Factory Theatre), Karen Glave (“Degrassi: The Next Generation”, The Listener), Sarah Jurgens (Michael DeCarlo’s upcoming feature film “Two Hands to Mouth”), Jamie Maczko (Litmus Theatre’s “Matchbook Macbeth”) & Sasha Singer-Wilson (“Yichud (Seclusion)” at Theatre Passe Muraille).
Join us at little tongues for an intimate, fearless, provocative experience. Re-imagine an evening at “the theatre”.
