From Press Release
The Board of Directors of Factory Theatre have announced that a national search for a new Artistic Director will commence shortly, as Ken Gass will no longer be continuing in that role with the organization, nor as Artistic Director Emeritus as was offered as part of re-visioning for Factory Theatre’s future.
“On behalf of all the members of the Board of Directors, I wish to thank Ken for his contribution and many years with Factory Theatre,” says Ron Struys, President of the Board. “We had all hoped that Ken would continue with the theatre as Artistic Director Emeritus, but he has elected not to accept this position. As founder and artistic director, as well as respected director, producer, playwright and advocate, Ken has played a major role in defining and transforming theatre in Canada and helping to foster the Canadian theatrical voice.”
The theatre is now embarking on a national search for a full-time Artistic Director.
In its more than 40-year history, Factory Theatre has produced over 300 plays in main stage productions and hundreds more in workshop and festival environments. Factory Theatre was one of the first theatres in the country to commit itself to producing only Canadian plays, sparking a revolution that effectively launched the Canadian playwriting movement. The company was responsible for helping to launch the careers of some of Canada’s most important playwrights.
Factory Theatre is a vibrant centre of new play development and production. Located in the heart of downtown Toronto, Factory produces a full season of all-Canadian plays, many of them world premieres.
