Numbers
From press release:
“I was here and this is my story.” Her message is simple. In sixty minutes, you will be taken on a journey of love, fear and hope told through the eyes of one young girl in WWll.
The numbering of persons in Jewish law is forbidden as it destroys the uniqueness of the individual and reduces a person, to a statistic. It was a convenient method of extermination. Lives stripped of identities and dreams.
This piece plays at Factory Mainspace. Performances: Sat July 14 5:45 PM, Sun July 15 1: 45 PM
ZACK ADAMS: A Complete History of Zack Adams
From press release:
Ever since he first appeared in the year two Nativity play, Zack knew he was destined for great things. A COMPLETE HISTORY OF ZACK ADAMS is a comedic coming-of-age story about an Australian actor’s quest for superstardom and his slow rise to mediocrity as he slowly learns that becoming a super-famous actor is actually going to be really hard work
“The project was created chiefly as a theatrical experiment in solo performance, focusing on the parallels in the creative process and performance between the actor, the storyteller and the comedian; attempting to explore the similarities between art forms and devising a piece which fell into some sort of middle ground between them.” – Writer/Performer Shane Adamczak
This piece plays at the Solo Room at the Tarragon Theatre. Performances: SUN July 15, 2:15pm
Do You Remember Me?
From press release: Inspired by myths, stereotypes and painful truths connected to Black/African populations
globally, Do You Remember Me features intellectual, humorous, and heartrending dialogue
between male and female characters of the past and present culminating with a firm resolution
to restore what has been lost to ensure a brighter future. The play was created when the pastor
of a local Toronto church called for creative efforts to address challenging issues faced by
members of his congregation. The piece was first presented before an audience of over one
thousand as a part of the church’s Black History Month celebrations in February 2012. This is
the first time the play will be presented through The Fringe Festival.
This piece plays at B.A.N.D. Gallery.
So We Thought We Could Act
From press release: Helen Prandekas and Rena Hundert bring satirical comedy to a whole new level with SO WE THOUGHT WE COULD ACT. This unique musical follows the lives of two desperate actresses who cannot seem to get a paid gig. We first meet the duo in their old age and then go back in time to the 1920′s when their journey first begins. Traveling through their lives, each era is brought to life with zany characters, quick-witted humor, dance and original music. Finishing on a bright yet sour note, we see them get their first paid gig, in their nineties, when they partake in a hilarious rap music video! Can their blood pressure take it? There’s only one way to find out…
This piece plays at the Tarragon Theatre. Performances: Friday, July 13 11:00pm, Sunday, July 15 5:15pm
