The Final Trick of a Shoddy Magician
From press release:
In this show, we treat the audience to a character born out of sketch comedy and perfected using influences from clown and vaudeville style physical theatre. We take you back to Toronto in the 1920’s. Our play within a play follows the comeback show of our hero, The Great Operatini. Watch him attempt his most daring trick and see that his moniker “The Shoddy Magician” is absolutely not an understatement!
This piece plays at the Annex Theatre. Performances: FRI JULY 5, 1:15 PM; SUN JULY 7, 4:00 PM; WED JULY 10, 12:00 PM; THU JULY 11, 9:15 PM; FRI JULY 12, 8:00 PM; SUN JULY 14, 12:00 PM
Making Love With Espresso
From press release:
A young man tries to navigate his way through the dating rules of the gay community and the rituals of his Italian heritage in MAKING LOVE WITH ESPRESSO, the exciting debut work by local playwright and performer Lorenzo Pagnotta which premieres at the Toronto Fringe Festival July 3-14!
It’s a unique take on the coming-out story, as the author presents a quasi-autobiographical journey as a young Italian-Canadian growing up in the Prairies and finding himself and his community through virtual connections with other gay men, which leads to a real trip around the world!
This piece plays at the Robert Gill Theatre. Performances: SAT JULY 6, 5:45 PM; SUN JULY 7, 2:15 PM; WED JULY 10, 7:45 PM; THU JULY 11, 3:30 PM; SAT JULY 13, 3:30 PM; SUN JULY 14, 1:00 PM
The Adversary
From press release:
How is justice brought to the street people, addicts and prostitutes who don’t call the police?
Andrew Bailey, comedian and nebbish, faced questions like this every day he was caretaker of an inner city church. He answers them in his latest monologue, The Adversary, part of the 2013 Toronto Fringe.
This piece plays at the Tarragon Theatre Extra Space. Performances: FRI JULY 5, 7:30 PM; SUN JULY 7, 3:00 PM; MON JULY 8, 9:00 PM; TUE JULY 9, 3:30 PM; THU JULY 11, 7:00 PM; FRI JULY 12, 3:30 PM; SAT JULY 13, 5:15 PM
Sour Grapes
From press release:
The Aft End in association with The Toronto Fringe Festival presents Sour Grapes, a dark new comedy written by Allan Turner and based on his experiences as a suicide survivor. Sour Grapes marks the first time Turner (otherwise known as Mullet, Toronto’s hit zombie clown) and director Bruce Hunter have worked together in their respective roles – although they have collaborated previously.
Sour Grapes takes an artful approach to its serious subject matter by combining a cast of all-new clown and bouffon characters — including a new one for Turner — with physical comedy and word play. In addition to Allan Turner as Coyote, the lead “trickster,” Sour Grapes features Dave McKay as Spider; Chloe Payne as Clown and Darryl Pring as Doctor. Andrea Ouellette stage manages.
This piece plays at the Theatre Passe Muraille Mainspace. Performances: FRI JULY 5, 11:00 PM; SUN JULY 7, 4:00 PM; MON JULY 8, 8:45 PM; TUE JULY 9, 4:30 PM; THU JULY 11, 7:00 PM; FRI JULY 12, 6:15 PM; SAT JULY 13, 12:00 PM
The Nature of a Bullet
From press release:
The Nature of a Bullet is about Dave. Well, Dave… and his co-workers. His father. His boss. And a brief stint with the law. Written and performed by Nick Dipchand, this play follows one man’s potential rise to the top in a world somewhat foreign to the arts: the corporation.
This piece plays at the Theatre Passe Muraille Backspace. Performances: SAT JULY 6, 1:30 PM; SUN JULY 7, 8:00 PM; MON JULY 8, 5:45 PM; WED JULY 10, 8:15 PM; THU JULY 11, 1:00 PM; FRI JULY 12, 3:30 PM; SUN JULY 14, 4:00 PM
