At Mooney on Theatre, we love the Classical Theatre Project. Whenever we see them, we have a marvelous time, and we especially dig their mandate of making classics relevant to new audiences and in new ways — particularly in schools.
So when we heard about their revival of ShakesBeer, we were excited. ShakesBeer combines a production of a CTP favourite — the highly irreverent Complete Works of Shakespeare (Abridged) — with three other Mooney favourites: beer, pies, and the Artscape Wychwood Barns. It’s a noisy, boisterous and hilarious evening under the stars with plenty to please devoted fans and newcomers alike.
Best of all, CPT is offering a $10 discount for readers of Mooney on Theatre: just use code brew39 at checkout.
Tickets start at $49 ($39 with the promo code) and normally sell quickly, so if this sounds up your alley, snatch one up while you’ve got the chance!

March 30, 2015 (Toronto, ON) – Once upon a time, Shakespeare was actually considered low-brow. But you know what? There’s a reason ol’ Bill’s stories caught on. Sorry, two reasons: alcohol and an all-male cast. Born of theatre aficionados, comedians and healthy drinkers, ShakesBeer is a jubilant nod to time-tested traditions.
On Saturday April 18th, Matt Drappel (winner of GILETTE DRAFTED), Jeff Hanson and Kevin Ritchie will re-enact the Complete Works of William Shakespeare, Abridged–a renowned comedy where three actors attempt to stage all 37 Shakespeare plays in 90 minutes.
With beer tastings, food, and music, the evening is sure to take on a festive atmosphere. Presented by Classical Theatre Project, in association with Artscape Wychwood Barns, ShakesBeer was launched in 2013 and has since welcomed more than 3,000 guests.
For this one-night-only event, local craft beer experts, Brew Box Company, are curating a selection of Ontario craft beer including Publican House Brewery, Junction Craft Brewing and Brickworks Ciderhouse. Each ticket includes three, free beer samples and additional brewers will be confirmed in the coming weeks.
In life, there are things that should be taken seriously and things that shouldn’t be. Shakespeare may not be the latter, but judge ShakesBeer for yourself.
