BECOMING BURLESQUE:
BLOOD SWEAT & TASSLES!
A cabaret dance show about the evolution of a a shy, conflicted urban girl as she befriends a company of Burlesque performers and unleashes her inner Burlesque-self: BABYLON! A full cabaret burlesque show that lets the audience see the chaos backstage as well as the magic on. The show is jam packed with sexy choreography and vintage Burlesque teases. A fun intro to the glamorous (and un-glamorous) world of dancer-life.
Filmmaker Jackie English is using the Fringe Festival stage as a vehicle to create choreography to the tunes of Toronto’s hottest indie musicians, parts of which will appear later in her first narrative dramatic feature film. For the purposes of the stage show only- English is stepping into the role of the girl “becoming burlesque” to experience the transformation first hand! (post-fringe, she is launching a crowdfunding campaign to raise film funds so stay tuned…) It’s also a chance to bring a unique phenomenon in the Burlesque community into the theatre scene here.
“Jackie English is one to watch” – myentertainmentworld.com
This original dance fringe show is created in collaboration with Toronto’s “Atomic Bomb of your Heart” Pastel Supernova and the incredible talents of the Love Letters Cabaret company. A
perfect introduction to the world of Burlesque, the Love Letters Cabaret experience, and the seductive powers of Pastel’s choreography.
“ChoreographerPastel Supernova titillates her audience into a daze of complicity during a night of mischievous seduction.” — Judith Cockman, Blogger
The show was spearheaded by co-producer Rob Scott, Fringe Festival newcomer who was one minute late for a show last year, went to the beer tent instead, flipped a table, met some people
and wanted to be part of the fun! Co-producer Jackie English has been in hit fringe shows such as MY MOTHER’S LESBIAN JEWISH WICCAN WEDDING, HUGH & I, ACT NOW! and CHRISTIAN REPUBLICAN FUNDRAISER IN DAYTON TENNESSEE.
