Memento Mori is a brand new show from award-winning Tracey Erin Smith that tells story of her last year on earth. After the suicide of Tracey’s father, she conducts a life experiment: choose one year and live it as if it were her last. Sky-diving. Cadavers. Wilderness. The danger doesn’t get her, but love does. Tonight is Tracey’s last night—and there’s a tango band.
Using mask, dance and Toronto’s foremost 4-piece Tango ensemble, Payadora, the audience goes on a voyage through the last night of Tracey’s life. Exploring the universal themes of life, death, and revenge masturbation, Memento Mori (Latin for ‘Remember you are mortal’) is staged as a private party in a backyard and then inside a gallery space on College Street that was once used as a synagogue. On her last night on earth, Tracey invites the audience to passionately explore the idea of fully living-while you’re still alive. Participate as much or as little in this Day of the Dead themed celebration as you desire.
Part mixer. Part death ritual. It’s a theatrical end of life celebration.
