Tiki Bikini Beach Paradise Party a Go Go
From press release: A musical comedy celebration of the Beach Party films of the 1960’s. Freddie, Jeanette and their beach pals plan to celebrate the final weeks of summer vacation by throwing an outta sight party! Everything would be copacetic if it wasn’t for feared beach villain, “The Big Tuna” who controls “Bikini Beach” the best beach for a party in all of Hawaii. Forbidden Fruit: Evolution focuses on stories from childhood to adulthood, focusing on the conflict of the inner spirit and the discovery of what is true for the characters. It highlights how we tend to repress human emotions and not communicate our feelings. The show ends with the discovery of finding the truth and essentially becoming free from within. Forbidden Fruit: Evolution brings to light such issues as sexuality, bullying, gender roles and building confidence/individuality through a fusion of dance styles including Contemporary Ballet, Bharatanatyam and Kathak, taking into account common elements and techniques in stances and poses.

The Grapes of Khan
From press release: Jape is a critically acclaimed and award-winning troupe comprised of Aaron Hagey-MacKay, Adam McNamara, Simon Pond and Eric Turk. They have honed their craft in front of the notoriously skeptical audiences of Toronto’s comedy community. They have produced shows as official selections in international sketch comedy festivals in Toronto, Montreal and Chicago. They have a passion for creating shows that have nothing to do with their titles.
This piece plays at Helen Gardiner Phelan Playhouse, 79 St. George St # 302. Performances: July 13 at Noon; July 14 at 6:00pm; July 16 at 7:00pm; July 17 at 4:00pm.
Every Woman I Slept With Before I Met You
From MoT Review: Every Woman I Slept With Before I Met You promises to be a darkly comedic performance about a guy who takes a wrong turn trying to romance his current girlfriend, and ends up spilling his whole sexual history instead. Created by filmmakers David Amito and AJ Bond for the Fringe Festival, it drew a solid house for 10pm on a Wednesday night.
With this in mind, I turned up expecting a salacious – or at least mildly naughty – sex comedy. You know, the kind in which the performer would bite his lip like a bad boy and say something along the lines of “…which turned out to be more fun than I was expecting, even if I did eventually have to throw out all the bedsheets and wash my cat in dish soap.”
This piece plays at The Solo Room at the Randolph Academy, 736 Bathurst St. Performances: July 12 at 10:15pm; July 13 at 4:45pm; July 14 at 6:15pm; July 17 at 2:15pm.
Finally: An Epic Cycle
From press release: A comedy about relationships, bike messengers and underdog hockey franchises.
No one saw it coming. After nearly half a decade of disappointment, the unthinkable has happened: for the first time in 46 years, The Leafs are finally playing in the Stanley Cup Finals. It’s the day of the seventh game, and Gen— on shaky ground with her boyfriend, Dan—has tickets to take him to The Game in a desperate attempt to cling to his affections. Or rather, she had tickets. Just hours before the puck is set to drop, she has lost her tickets.
This piece plays at Helen Gardiner Phelan Playhouse, 79 St. George St # 302. Performances: July 14 at 9:30pm; July 15 at 5:15pm; July 16 at 1:45pm.
In the Trenches
From press release: Set in World War I France, In The Trenches is an original, fast paced, dark comedy written by Peter Sawyer, an ex-soldier turned actor/comedian, and David Rutherford, an abstract oil painter turned graduate of the London School of Economics. In the Trenches shines the spotlight on a group of eight young (and not so young) Canadians in their “home away from home” a trench at the front, where the smell of fear is overwhelmed by the smell of each other. As they fight the enemy and the daily grind of life in the trenches, they soon learn that bullets and shells are the least of their problems. In eight hilariously moving vignettes, In the Trenches takes the audience on an intimate, sharply funny journey, as our Canadian “heroes” battle their enemy, around and within.
This piece plays at George Ignatieff Theatre, 15 Devonshire Place. Performances: July 14 at 9:45pm; July 15 at 1:45pm; July 17 at 3:30pm.
