M E R M A I D  P A R A D E  presents  the CANADIAN PREMIERE of THIS WIDE NIGHT

Award winning UK play premieres JULY 22 at Theatre Passe Muraille

On her release from prison, Lorraine heads straight to Marie’s. On the inside they used to share everything, but the friendship that once protected them now threatens to smother their new fragile freedom. “This Wide Night” is a tender and fierce portrayal of two women trying to start again.

Over the rocky course of a week we see the bonds of their friendship tested, teased and provoked as they try to reconnect and rekindle their relationship. We learn about the issues they have had with family, friends, lovers, and in Lorraine’s case, about the son she lost over twenty years ago, with whom she is desperate to make contact.

Live Review: Music Inspired By Shakespeare (Black Creek Summer Musical Festival)

Black Creek Summer Festival is presenting a “Music Inspired By Shakespeare” concert tonight at 8pm, featuring verses recited by famous actors Helen Mirren (The Queen) and Jeremy Irons (The Lion King).

This theatre review will be different from the rest because it will be live! Well, we always love trying something new here at Mooney on Theatre. I’ll be blogging live from the social media suite at the Rexall Centre. That’s right, stream-of-consciousness coming from yours truly and with no room for sober second thought. Toronto – May 16, 2011 – “Desperate Church Wives” makes its debut in the Toronto Fringe Festival, on Thursday, July 7, 2011, produced by Diane Johnstone’s, Under the Blood Productions.

Desperate Church Wives is a one-woman show, loosely based on the biblical story of Prophet Hosea and his harlot wife, Gomer, which God told to marry. It is written and performed by Diane Johnstone and directed by Laura Anne Harris. What would you think if you heard of a Holy man, a priest, a rabbi, etc. whose wife gets busted for prostitution? Well, the church women are upset! Does the hoe have to go?
