If you don’t know Dennis Lee, you need to change that. I have to admit that I didn’t know who Dennis Lee was until this October. Seems my brother-in-law had his original copy of Lee’s Alligator Pie published in 1974. I had vague memories of this beloved children’s book, so my niece and I sat and read it to remind me. That was the extent of my knowledge of Lee’s writings.
SoulPepper‘s Mike Ross and Lorenzo Savoini along with Albert Schultz took Lee’s poetry book Civil Elegies (published by Lee over 40 years ago,) and created a beautiful piece of theatre combining Lee’s poetry with musical pieces.
Returning to a role he created, Peter Anderson once again steps up to the ledge of a great production of The Canadian Stage Company’s 7 Stories.
Back in 1989, Morris Panych, the playwright, chose Anderson to play the character of ‘The Man’ for the first production of 7 Stories. Along with his set-designing partner Ken MacDonald, Panych directed the original show into winning six Jessie and 4 Dora Mavor Moore Awards.
Brad Fraser’s newest play, True Love Lies about a father’s past coming back to change his family’s life, is opening the 40th anniversary season at Factory Theatre. After a well-received world premiere in London, England at the start of the year, Fraser’s play is a witty piece of writing.
