The story of Randy and Evi Quaid makes its way to Toronto’s Next Stage Festival in Release the Stars
Release the Stars: The Ballad of Randy and Evi Quaid is part of this year’s Next Stage Theatre Festival and is playing at Factory Theatre Studio. Its Toronto premiere was at the Toronto Fringe Festival in 2012 and I kicked myself for missing it. I can’t remember what drew me to it then — perhaps it was the star power of the titular characters, my curiosity about site specific shows or because I am a fan of Amanda Barker — but what I saw this past Wednesday night was not what I was expecting. A provocative story of addictions masked by art in Stencilboy playing at the Next Stage Theatre Festival
The start of a new year of theatre gets a proper kick off with the Next Stage Theatre Festival . This year’s selection certainly looks promising and if Paradigm Productions ‘ Stencilboy and Other Portraits is any indication, I’m sure the festival won’t disappoint.
Stencilboy takes a gritty look at the world of visual art and the past, present, ideals and dark secrets hidden, reflected, and highlighted in the brush strokes on the canvas.

Kick off 2014 with the seventh annual Toronto Fringe’s Next Stage Theatre Festival beginning January 8
The 7th year of the Toronto Fringe’s Next Stage Theatre Festival is upon us.
The Next Stage Theatre Festival , or NSTF, is a platform for past Fringe artists (from Toronto or any other CAFF member festivals) to take groundbreaking work to the “next stage”. Some performances are remounts of previous Fringe shows, but most are new works from previously established Fringe artists. This year’s festival runs from January 8 – 19, 2014.
