I think that we’re all getting caught up in the pre-holiday season whirlwind! The weeks are just starting to fly by and fill up with so many things to see and do. Before getting too enveloped in the snowstorm of December events, this is a great week to catch some live theatre. What better way to find a calm in the storm before the start of holiday madness than to find a comfy seat in a dark theatre and breath in the creative air?

It’s beginning to look a lot like… winter theatre season! There are some fabulous shows running at any number of theatre spaces in the city, and sometimes it can be hard to choose which show hits the top of the ‘To-Go-To’ list. I have definitely started planning my Holiday ‘wish list’ because theatre tickets are a stellar gift to get. And to give!
All of us at Mooney are excited about so many of the plays, dance performances, and comedies that are coming out over the next while, and there really is something for everyone! Well, there was snow in the air last week, so it’s officially cold enough for scarves and gloves season. It also means that we are deep into the Toronto Theatre Season. Another dusting of new shows open at most of the main company stages this week and next. And, alongside those shows comes many new plays, dance shows, musicals, and comedy as well.

Welcome to the post-Hallowe’en sugar crash… and the swiftly impending December Holiday season. I know I’m not ready yet for carols and the holiday shopping crush, how about you? The best place to be if you are looking to avoid the start of the seasonal avalanche of all things ‘guy in the red suit’ is definitely the theatre!
Fortunately, there is definitely ‘something for everyone’ this week to help you evade the coming holly-jolly. New and creative dance shows, comedies, musical revues, and (of course!) plays. And, if you are ready to dive right into the peppermint-scented snowy holiday season there are seasonal pieces opening as well. Happy Hallowe’en! Blessed Samhain! Feliz Dia de Muertos! I hope you all enjoy the many spooky events going on this week. If you’re as worried about this week’s impending sugar coma as I am, maybe checking out some theatre will curb your cravings for those many mini wrapped treats. After all, you can’t open them in the dark silence of a performance!
Not only are there many great shows whose runs continue this week, but there is something for everyone in the new theatre, opera, sketch comedy and stand-up taking the stage. And – no surprise because it’s the week to celebrate all things eerie – there are some fantastic pieces showcasing all things supernatural and unearthly this week.
