minorities is an incredible and thought-provoking work
Unapologetically bold and powerfully provocative minorities makes its Canadian debut at Canadian Stage’sBerkeley Street Theatre. Choreographer Yang Zhen questions the personal disconnect of social identity within the new generation of ethnic minorities in China through dance, theatre, and vocals.
Taking on the patriarchy one joke at a time, comedian Alex Dallas hits all the right notes
Horseface is a wickedly funny one-woman show by Alex Dallas playing at Red Sandcastle Theatre. It responds to the #metoo era but also goes beyond it. It is an irreverently black comedic take on one woman’s life from the 70s until now.
Although Dallas’ story is a personal one, every woman can relate to her experiences. Being objectified or receiving unwanted male attention or having to squeeze in next to a manspreader on the train are pretty universal experiences for women.
The Particulars is wonderfully original, beautiful and touching theatre
Punctuate! Theatre has brought The Particulars to The Theatre Centre and it is a mesmerizing sight to see. Haunting, melodic, subversively funny, and bearing a deeply rooted sadness, this show is a wonderfully original examination of one man’s life after loss.
Second City brings audiences on a trek through nostalgia for their 83rd main stage show
For their 83rd (wow!) main stage revue, Second City presents If I Could #Throwback Time — a sketch variety show that brings the audience on a trip through nostalgia with nods to Power Rangers, ET, and old school video games. As with any Second City show, there’s a chance you may be prompted on stage or otherwise asked to get involved, but one thing is for sure, you’re bound to laugh.
